Ronaldo named UEFA best player of the year

Cristiano Ronaldo has been named UEFA Player of the Year, beating Lionel Messi and Gianluigi Buffon to the prize, European soccer's governing body announced during the Champions League group stage draw in Monaco on Thursday. Ronaldo helped Real to a second consecutive Champions League title and finished as the tournament's top scorer with 12 goals last season. He has now won the award three times, one more than Messi. The three-player shortlist was chosen by a panel of 80 coaches of clubs that participated in the group stages of the 2016/17 Champions League and Europa League and 55 journalists selected by the European Sports Media (ESM) group, representing each of UEFA's member associations. Manchester United has confirmed the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the big Swede penned a new one year deal with the club. Less than three months ago, the former Juventus and AC Milan forward was released by Manchester United after injury ended his season. The club official website confirmed the Swedish striker has penned a new one year-deal with the club and will wear the number 10 shirt. Former Real Madrid player sentenced to three months imprisonment

A judicial department in Rio de Janeiro has sentenced former Real Madrid and Inter Milan left-back Roberto Carlos to three months imprisonment for his inability to pay alimony for two of his children. Carlos, who is now Real Madrid Ambassador in Asia and Oceania failed to pay his former partner Barbara Thurler the alimony for her children after the court ordered him to pay her $20,000 (61,000 reals). The 46 year-old ex-brazilian international claimed his financial troubles is the reason why he hasn't paid his debts. Carlos, who is known for his thunderous left foot, recently welcome a child with his new wife Marianna Lucon. The child is his ninth.

World Football Governing body FIFA has revealed the players shortlisted for the Best FIFA Men's award on Thursday. Fulham sign Liverpool youngster on a season-long loan

Championship side Fulham has announced the signing of Sheyi Ojo from Liverpool on a season-long loan. The 20 year-old, who is expected to make his debut against Sheffield Wednesday this weekend,  has previously spent times in English second tier league with Wolveshampton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic. Ojo, along with other players with Nigerian root such as Tomori, Dominic Solanke and Lookman Ademola, was a member of the Young lions of England that won the under 20 World Cup in South Korea earlier this year. Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) under the leadership of president Amaju Pinnick, are confident of bringing the three young lions International into the Super Eagles of squad in coming years.

Gareth Barry set to join West Bromwich Albion

Everton midfielder Gareth Barry is set to join West Bromwich Albion on a one year deal. West Brom manager Tony Pulis want the former Aston Villa player to replace Darren Fletcher, who left for Stoke city.
