Teachers may soon earn higher salaries than other workers in the country. Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu dropped the hint while inaugurating the Governing Councils of Federal Colleges of Education in Abuja on Thursday. He said the teaching profession had ceased to be an “all-comers affairs”.  Represented by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Gozie Anwukah, he said government had understudied the Malaysian educational system and decided to take a critical look at teaching and teacher education. He, however, sounded a note of warning that teachers across all levels must register with the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) before the end of this year or risk being sent out of the system. The minister noted that Malaysia in the quest for greatness had reorganised its educational sector for effective development of human resources to take it to the present position. Nigerian Air Force Men attacked the University of Osun students and some members of the school staff on tuesday, May 23. Following the Air Force men, 11 students and 2 workers were injured. The school authority has shut down it institution for a week, the students are expected back on campus on Wednesday, May 31st, 2017.

A Nigerian Lady has bagged a PhD in Nuclear physics abroad. The Brother of the unidentified lady disclosed this via his twitter handle @slimstalk. A Bill to abolish discrimination between HND and BSc passes second reading in the House of Representatives today tuesday April 11. In Nigeria holder of Higher National Diploma (HND) are inferior to their Bachelor of Science (BSc) counterparts. The degree holders are placed on Grade level 8 while the diploma holders are placed on Grade level 6or 7. The bill to abolish such discrimination was sponsored by PDP's Ali Isa representing Balanga/Billiri constituency in Gombe state and Edward Pwajok representing Jos South/East constituency in Plateau state. Contributing to the debate, Rep. Pwajok said a research he carried out on both certificates, showed that the discrimination had no moral justification. He also said that the unfortunate situation would make the international community to look down on the status of educational institutions in the country. The Joint Admissions And Matriculation Board has extended the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination by two weeks. The announcement was made on Saturday April 8. The registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB Professor Ishaq Oloyede made the announcement at a press conference in Abuja. He also confirmed that Mock Examination is on hold indefinitely and that new date will be communicated to the candidates. Prof Oloyede said that the mock which had been expected to hold nationwide were to prepare the candidates who paid for the Mock Exam for the actual Examination. According to the report, the organisation also said it had rescheduled the UTME to between May 13 and 20.
