Happy Independence Day
Fellow Nigerians
Today it’s our 62nd Independence Day and we should feel proud to be a part of an Independent nation that has freedom of speech, and freedom to live life in our way. We do not have to follow anybody’s slavery. But this was not the case 62 years ago when we were a slave to the British Government. Nigeria has been ruled by the British for years and after a continuous struggle by our nationalists, such as Obafemi Awolowo, Tafawa Balewa, Antony Enahoro, Nnamdi Azikwe, etc. we achieved independence on the 1st of October 1960. Our brave freedom fighters didn't stop there, they fought on and 3 years later we became a Republican Nation. This is a day of pride and joy for every citizen of this lovely country.
The independence which we have received is the result of the fights and sacrifices of our heroes past. We should never forget this. Their labors must not be in vain. Patriotism is above everything and we should inculcate a feeling of patriotism in everything we do.
We should also teach our younger generations to be patriotic and also encourage them to have a career in national security.
At last, I again wish you all a happy independence day and hope together we can build a nation that works for all of us.
