Carlo Ancelotti reveals why he was sacked at Real Madrid

Napoli manager, Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Real Madrid President Florentino Perez sacked him because of his decision to substitute Gareth Bale in the 2-1 league defeat to Valencia at the Mestalla stadium in 2015.

The former Chelsea gaffer explained that he substituted Gareth Bale because the Welshman failed to set up Karim Benzema for a goal that could have put Real Madrid ahead in the game.

The incident did not go down well with Florentino Perez, who questioned the manager's decision to substituted the former Tottenham player.

Ancelotti and Bale shake hands

"Not all players have it, of course, but selflessness  is an important quality in the team," the italian told Napolista.

"If there is one thing that drives me crazy, it is selfishness on the pitch, when a player has to pass but he doesn't. I have also paid for it at Real Madrid.

"The reason for the row with Florentino Perez was because i substituted Gareth Bale in a match against Valencia.

"Bale should have passed the ball to Karim Benzema, who would have scored in front of an open goal but he took the shot instead and i took him off and we had war."

Ancelotti was the manager of Real Madrid from 2013 to 2015, he won four titles with the club including Champions league title that have eluded them since 2002.
