Wimbledon: Wawrinka crashes out as Murray and Nadal sail through the first round


World number 47 Russian wonderkid, Daniil Medvedev stunned Stan Wawrinka  at the first round of Wimbledon. The Swiss top seed and French open runner-up was knocked out by the Russian debutant, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

The 21 year-old Russian, Medvedev, who was making his Wimbledon debut, stunned Switzerland's Stan Wawrinka at the day one of Wimbledon. The lost means Wawrinka has now lost six times at the All England club.


The Russian, who was ranked 250 last year, kissed the center court grass to celebrate his first victory in any gland slams while Wawrinka quest to become the ninth man to win a career slam will have to wait for another.

Reigning Wimbledon Champion and World number one  Andy Murray cruised to the second round after defeating Kazakhstani tennis player 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, Alexander Bublik. Murray, who is expecting another child, will face Dustin Brown, who is famous for his victory over Rafael Nadal in 2015, in the second round.



Meanwhile, French Open Champion Rafael Nadal began his quest to end his Wimbledon drought with a straight set (6-1, 6-3, 6-2) victory over Australia's John Millman. The victory was Nadal's 850th career victory. The spainard, who missed the last edition with a wrist injury, will face Donald Young in the second round.

Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament in the world. The tournament has been in existence since 1877 and It's played at outdoor grass courts.
