Di Maria Sentenced to 1 year imprisonment
Ex Real Madrid and Manchester United player, Angel Di Maria, has pleaded guilty over the accusations levelled against him by the Spanish tax authorities.
The Spanish tax authorities accused the Argentine international Winger of two offenses during his four-year spell with Real Madrid in Spain.
The Argentine has accepted to pay the sum of two million Euro as settlement after he was sentenced to one year imprisonment by a court.
The former Benfica winger was said to have defrauded the Spanish tax authorities of £1.14million over his image rights deals during his four-years stint at Real Madrid.
Despite being sentenced to one year imprisonment, the 29 year-old is very unlikely to serve the jail term. Under Spanish laws, first-time offender will not be required to serve a jail term for sentence below two years.
Di Maria's issue with the Spanish government joined the lengthening list of high profile footballers such ex team-mate at Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo and his compatriot, Lionel Messi, with tax evasion cases.
